IMG_0768Dear friends, supporters & customers of Chain Reaction Bicycle Project, We’ve appreciated your support and encouragement over the past 9 years as we’ve provided a green, curbside recycling option for parts of the Goshen community with our recycling by bicycles program. When we started, we were providing an important service for Goshen residents that was unavailable from anyone else. As many of you are well aware, we’ve struggled in the recent past with providing our customers with the quality of service expected from a program like ours. With a changing pool of riders and their limited understanding or investment in our program and the idea of quality customer service, and as the economy improves and employable people are finding work, we’ve found it challenging to find the riders needed to continue the recycling service. Because of these factors, as of July 1, 2013 we will be discontinuing the curbside recycling by bicycle program of Chain Reaction.

The Chain Reaction Bicycle Shop will continue operating. We have been charging on a six month cycle, running April – Sept. Since you have paid six months in advance for these services, we will refund half of your payment ($24) for the three months we won’t be providing recycling. Simply respond to this email indicating your interest in a refund, and we’ll be happy to send you a check. If you would care to, we would welcome the donation of that amount to the continued operations of the Chain Reaction Bicycle Shop, which recently moved to a new building at 510 E. Washington Street and will continue providing quality used bicycles to the Goshen Community. Many of you are aware that the bike shop provides much needed transportation to people in need in the community through accepting donations of used bicycle and repairing and making those bicycles available to community members, either through cash purchase or in exchange for labor in the shop. Your donation is tax deductible and will be receipted for tax purposes. Thanks for considering this option and letting us know your preference. On the last pickup on June 26, we will leave empty bins that are yours to keep.

If you would be interested in purchasing more bins, we will have those available at $4 per bin at the bike shop. Thanks for all your interest, concern, tolerance and support of CRBP and its recycling program. It’s a credit to you, our customers, to know that you care enough about marginally employable people in the community to support us in this venture. We are sad to end this program, but it has become unmanageable, and you deserve better service than what we can provide. Please come and visit us at our bike shop on Washington Street. If you enjoy bicycles, we’d love to have you volunteer with us in working with community members to make bicycles available to those who need them in the community. A variety of skills can be used! If you have questions or concerns, please email info@crbp.org or call us at 574-903-3056.
